[In what is apparently becoming a recurring trend, Sollux doesn't look very happy as he turns on the PokéGear. Sure, he's covered in scratches and clearly hasn't slept well in days, despite the glasses hiding his tired eyes. There isa new Pokémon around him now, a small red and green dragonfly; it's not hard to guess at least one of the reasons why he's in such a sour state, because one of them is a Yanma, one of the rarest little buggers on the route north of Goldenrod. One wonders how long he spent looking for that thing.]

[The other reason would probably be the fact that he seemingly decided that his spirit animal is a Zapdos.]

[His previously black hair now has streaks of very yellowish blond in it, for one thing. And where it curled oddly before, each and every hair is now straight as a pin -- and at a seventy-five degree angle, sticking up from his head like he went Super Saiyan while no one was looking. The PokéGear is being held by Baltoy, whose limb can sometimes be seen repositioning the camera; Sollux seems unwilling to touch it himself, any more than he absolutely has to. Probably a wise decision, considering what he's learned on Alternia about tech and unchecked electricity.]

[But he doesn't seem to be ranting about this makeover today; he's not mentioning it at all, even though he certainly noticed. Instead, he looks up at the sky for a moment and back at the PokéGear. Apparently, someone has missed the demolition derby carried out on the local Pokémon Center, but what he heard from out on the Route is definitely not telling his survival instincts to go and check it out.]

What the hell is happening back in Goldenrod? I just heard some fucking unholy noises from over there.

I didn't miss the explosions, they shook the fucking ground! That's what I made this post for! [And no he doesn't watch the news, but you know what, ok.]

[As for what he's doing out here, he came out for one thing and one thing only: a Yanma. Now that he has that, he has no qualms with going back to civilization, even if civilization is only a few hours' walk away. But he's not going to tell Karky that.] The other one? Did VS get hit too?

[ snorts. ]

Yes, yes he did. He's been sick for about two or three days now.

Whatever [guess who hadn't even seen him for two or three days]. Fine, I'm coming back.

[And he packs his shit up. Several hours later, more than it would take to walk straight back, Sollux returns. He took a little detour to check out the damage since... well, he was passing it anyway, and also to slam the PokéMart before everyone realized that they wouldn't be healed anymore. Gotta keep these rations.]

The room is three fourteen. I thought you might enjoy it.

[ Karkat is there at the inn, waiting. he's actually not that bad off. his only change is that those red eyes he had are now blue. he's in the chair, reading the Gear. just in case more information pops up. ]

Hi. [Other than that one word, Sollux makes no indication that Karkat even exists; your typical entrance for him, of course, but oh well. The Pokémon, he decided, could chill out in their containment spheres for a while, so he left those with the traveling bag he had packed for the expedition, dumping the lot of it unceremoniously in the corner of the room. From there, it's over to another armchair next to Karkat's; he attempts to engage in conversation to hide the fact that he's channel surfing until he finds the news.] Any updates?

Hey.

[ it's enough of a greeting. Leopold, the Espeon, and Julia, the Swablu, are both resting on the bed right along with Vanitas. looks like Karkat finally got him to settle down again and stay in bed. thank god, right?

Karkat looks up though at the question, a Joltik right on his shoulder. ]

I didn't bother to keep checking. It's the same old shit.

[Best pals, right here.]

[Still, Sollux eventually finds the news, and settles in to get the aforementioned 'same old shit'. He'd gotten different parts of the rundown from assorted people over the PokéGear, but this was the first footage he'd seen, aside from the brief walk past the Goldenrod Center (which hadn't ended very well at all). Directly in the middle of it, who should emerge from his own Pokéball but Yanma, apparently wishing to explore his new surroundings. He makes sure to stay within Sollux's line of sight as he releases Baltoy, too.]

Holy-- can't you shitheads stay where you're told?

[The extra noise is what wakes him up, making him grunt and frown and knit his eyebrows together unappreciatively. Shifting and rolling a little onto his side, Vanitas cracks his eyes open and grunts a "hello" to Sollux.]

[ Karkat doesn't bat an eyelash, ignoring Vanitas entirely at the moment. ]

They're not going to do anything, Captor. It's fine to leave them out. Obviously it's what we do.

[ as if on cue, Leopold's ears twitch. he stands a bit, stretches. sends out a tired, psychic They're still loud to everyone before turning to Vanitas. Vani is getting a lick to the forehead before settling back in.

Karkat, though, snorts. ]

One day your Baltoy might do that.

Whateve-- [...He stops talking suddenly.]

[The look on his face makes it very clear that Leopold's psychic PSA is not a welcome development. He actually twitches at what Karkat says afterward, and makes a point to stare right at Baltoy as he responds.]

If he does, I'll kill him.

[Looking a little crosseyed at the purple cat licking his forehead, Vanitas does wind up chuckling and closing his eyes again. He's a little too awake to just go right back to sleep, but he doesn't try getting up. Lifting a hand, he reaches to lightly scritch behind the Espeon's ears.]

[ Karkat picks up a fallen pillow and tosses it at Sollux's head. ]

You're trying to get them to trust and respect you, not fucking fear you. At least these are conversational and not doomed shitheads.

[He notices the pillow just a second too late. It takes some flailing, but he eventually does succeed in redirecting the squishy projectile, making it fall harmlessly on Vanitas' bed. Afterward, we return to more of the hit program, Sollux Being Intolerable Because He Has Nothing Of Substance To Say.] Well in case you hadn't noticed, trust and respect are two feelings I'm not exactly gifted with, so those two are out of luck.

[Snorting from his place, Vanitas cracks his eyes open enough to look.] If you stay long enough, you'll understand it better. I trusted nothing and respected nothing when I first arrived too.

[ Karkat is just leaning back more in his chair. he gives a few scratches to Static, who chirps happily. ]

Even if you aren't gifted, you're a gaming master right?

I've walloped your ass enough times for you to know the answer to that. [Just... pointedly ignoring Vanitas. Anyone who poses a threat to his stubborn refusal to acknowledge the subject must be taken down immediately. He... he's still working on the 'takedown' part.]

[Narrows his eyes, he doesn't take to being ignored that well... and growls; it's fairly inhumane sounding now too, with those teeth amplifying the noise.]

Shut up, Vani. I hear you just fine. If you have that much energy how about you try getting up and walking since that worked so well for you last time.

[ Karkat rolls his eyes, looking back at Sollux. he's actually challenging his best friend here, Vanitas. knock it off. ]

So work to surpass me here, or is that just too much for Thollukth?

[Fuck you, Karkat Vantas. You know him too well.]

...Go die in the breeding caverns, you candy-blooded asshole. [He doesn't actually know Karkat's blood color, of course; indicating that someone falls below the hemospectrum is a common insult around his parts.]

[Nope. He isn't going to sit by with that insult and outright snarls, shoving himself into sitting up. Discharging a bit of electricity about the room, Vanitas curled his upper lip back with those teeth gnashing a bit.]

[ under normal circumstances, Karkat would just jump up and tell Vanitas to shut up. he'd also bitch at Sollux. but that growl... the electricity...

welp. Karkat is just watching. dumbfounded. ]

[Then that makes two of them.]

[...But only for a second. Soon enough, Sollux has stood up too, hissing and baring his teeth as any troll would if threatened. Guess who hasn't learned his lesson from the last time he picked a fight with someone who had just developed hugely dangerous powers? The answer is this guy.] Got a problem, sleepyhead?

Yeah, I do have a problem. [Shorting out the lights in the room, Vanitas managed to get himself up to his feet, throwing the blanket over the Pokemon on the bed before he inadvertently shocks them.]

Take back what you said or I'm ripping your throat out, here and now.

[ oh god. Karkat is having a severe flash back at the moment. give his brain a moment to catch up before he can stop this. ]
